Home Show 2012

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help out at the Retirement Community booth at the Home Show March 23-25. Thanks also to everyone who stopped by to say hi! We loved telling folks about Raven Landing apartments and the Community Center, and we introduced our new Raven Landing tote bags.

Many people at the Home Show took advantage of a gift of a tote bag for a donation of $10 or more. Contact the office if you’d like one too! All donations go toward construction of the Raven Landing Community Center.

Raven Landing Community Center Phase 1

Great News!

Two funding requests from Retirement Community of Fairbanks were successful in December.

The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation announced it intends to award $3.5 million (plus loans of $2.4 million) to build the third 20-unit apartment building at Raven Landing.  This should be constructed in 2012, and then be ready for early 2013.

The Rasmuson Foundation board voted to give $200,000 to Retirement Community of Fairbanks to furnish the kitchen equipment for the Raven Landing Community Center, which is now under construction.  Phase 1, which includes the kitchen and dining room, is scheduled to be finished and operational by midsummer, 2012.  It will be open to all seniors in the area for meals and a variety of activities. The construction of Phase 1 was made possible by a 2010 grant from the Alaska legislature, plus $300,000 in local and corporation donations.  See donor list.

Fundraising is ongoing for Phase 2, which will include an expanded dining room, classrooms, lounges, a meditation room, a library/computer room, offices, and medical and spa components.

Community Center entry

Right across from Noel Wien Library on Cowles Street, you can see the foundation for Phase 1 of the Raven Landing Community Center -- in the ground, ready for walls to be added next March. It will be open to the public next summer. See more details and pictures.

Behind it is Raven Landing 1, completed last November. Next door is the second Raven Landing senior apartment building, which will be completed by March 2012.

Who We Are

Raven Landing Senior Community is the first senior housing community to be envisioned for Fairbanks. The first apartment building opened for residents November, 2010 and is completely full. The next building (20 more apartments) will be open for residents in the spring of 2012. These apartments are the result of seven long and hard years of work by a small group of dedicated volunteers. Four apartment buildings and a community center to serve all area seniors will be built on these dedicated six acres.

Housing

Raven Landing provides rental apartments at market price for Fairbanks seniors, 55 years or older, who desire independent living options in safe, secure buildings specifically designed for seniors.

Location

This apartment complex is at 949 McGown Street which is centrally located in Fairbanks, near the library, hospital, and shopping.  This complex will replace the east portion of the Fairview Manor apartment buildings.

Management

The Retirement Community of Fairbanks (RCF) is a nonprofit corporation developed by local residents for the purpose of providing facilities and services that will permit Fairbanks seniors to spend their retirement years here among friends and family. Raven Landing is owned and operated by RCF, which employs Susan Motter as manager of the facility.

VISION IS SEEING WHAT IS NOT THERE YET!

Community Center

Raven Landing Community Center will be a space for seniors to eat, learn, relax and socialize together.  This facility will be approximately 10,000 square feet with plenty of room for all the seniors of the Fairbanks area.  Senior residents of Raven Landing will rely on the Community Center and a portion of their fees will take care of the utilities and maintenance.

Fund Raising

Phase 1 of the Community Center, costing over $1 million, was funded by donations from local businesses and individuals, and by a State of Alaska capital grant. See a list of our generous donors. Phase 2 will cost another $2.4 million and complete the Center at over 12,000 sq. ft. See the Community Center plans. How can I contribute?
